Start with an appointment for a free consult. They usually last 30 minutes to an hour. Repair consults may require items be left with us for cleaning and evaluation so an estimate can be made.
Here is a little of what you can expect from a design consult.
We will gather as much information as we can about what you are looking for. Some things to think about are:
- Metal choices- usually, but not limited to, platinum, white, rose, or yellow gold, silver, and palladium.
- Styles- modern, vintage, organic, deco, etc.
- Setting style if there are stones- prong, bezel, partial bezel and many more.
We will do counter sketches while you are here and additional sketches if needed and take measurements of stones and get finger sizes. An estimate of the cost may take a day or two, depending on sourcing gemstones for the project or if more elaborate sketches are needed. After an estimate is agreed upon and about a third down payment is made, I start the process of turning the sketch into a computer model, wax or fabricating the piece.
Most of the projects are designed using CAD software which usually takes a week to complete, more for complex designs. Before anything is cast into metal, I will get approval from you first either by you coming in for a second consult or emailing you renders and CAD views of the piece. The beauty of using CAD is that I model everything to scale. I build every piece around the finger size and stone measurements.
Once the CAD model or wax is approved, the piece gets 3D printed and cast into the metal of your choice. It is then cleaned up, assembled, set, polished and sometimes engraved. The whole process usually takes 3-4 weeks for an average engagement ring and more for complex designs. Final payment plus tax is made upon pick up.
The fine print: All sales are final on custom, restoration and repair work unless there is a defect in workmanship or metal. Normal wear and tear are not covered. We do everything we can to ensure you are happy with the estimate and design prior to casting. You assume the risk for stones provided to us to set. Due to the nature of some stones such as emeralds which are treated most of the time or low clarity graded diamonds, such stones pose a higher risk of damage even with utmost care in setting. It is recommended that stone set items be checked on a regular basis to ensure that it has not become loose in the setting during normal wear.
